How to Join Our Team
In order to join the University of Illinois Police Department, interested persons must go through a competetive selection process that first starts with the application. We generally open the application during the early spring and the remainder of the testing portions happen later during the spring. The application is currently closed.

Minimum Qualifications for Hire
Illinois resident- 21 years of age
- High school graduate or GED
- Valid State of Illinois driver's license
- No record of felony convictions
- Physically fit
Selection Process:

- Oral board interview
- Placement on Police Officer Eligibility Register
- Hiring Interview
- Background Investigation
- Medical Evaluation
- Psychological assessment
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Hire
- One year probation
- Twelve weeks of basic police training at the Police Training Institute
- Seventeen weeks with a field training officer
- Continued training and professional development
