We now have RAD Classes for both Women and Men. The women's course is called, "Rape Aggression Defense." The men's course is, "Resisting Aggression with Defense." Please see below for further.
The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to basic hands-on defense training.
R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide you with a reference manual to work from. This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth.
The R.A.D. System of Physical Defense is currently being taught at many Colleges and Universities. The growing, wide-spread acceptance of this system is primarily due to the ease, simplicity and effectiveness of our tactics, solid research, legal defensibility and unique teaching methodology.
We now offer a Moms and Daughters RAD course that is age-appropriate for girls in middle and high school. Mothers pair with their older daughters in creating safety plans for schools, riding in cars with their friends, bullying behavior, and what red flags to look for when they start dating. As girls become more independent, their defensive-mindset needs to grow. The mother-daughter format will help open up conversational points between them so that safety planning can be a joint effort.
The Aerosol Defense Options Course is for women only, as well. For Rape Aggression Defense Basic Program Graduates, one 4-hour session For non-R.A.D. Graduates, two 4-hour sessions Program cost: $18.32 (Includes workbook and training materials) Using the proven R.A.D. Systems philosophy, Aerosol Defense Options destroys the myths and manufacturer hype about pepper spray effectiveness and even its ability to deter a Committed Focused Aggressor. ADO students learn the most realistic methods for accessing, deploying and assisting the aerosol defense option. If the weapon fails to work (and it may), they learn the proven backup strategies needed for successful escape. Stop believing a manufacturers selling hype. At the end of the course, students will understand the usefulness and limits of the aerosol defense weapon, laws regarding its use, and have ample opportunity to practice both with the aerosol defense weapon and their own personal weapons.
Rape Aggression Defense is for women only. For men interested in a self defense course, please see "Resisting Aggression with Defense for Men" below. The contents of the course were developed based on the natural movements and abilities of women in order to maximize a woman’s ability to defend herself.
Courses are open to all women. Priority however goes to students faculty and staff. Registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis and is required prior to class. Enrollment is limited.
A minor (age 18 and under) may register for the course, but she must first receive permission from her parent or legal guardian before participating in any of the activities of R.A.D. Rape Aggression Defense Basic Course.
Four 3-hour sessions Program cost, $20.00 (Includes workbook) The cornerstone of R.A.D. Systems, this course has its foundations in education and awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion and self-defense techniques, suitable for women of all ages and abilities. At the end of the course, the women will have the option of participating in a dynamic simulation, which gives them the opportunity to practice their avoidance and physical techniques in a controlled learning environment.
In order to provide realisting self-defense training for men on the University of Illinois campus, we are now providing the RAD for Men course. This course works in de-escalating situations in which men may find themselves. It also will also provide viable defensive tools. The course works to challenge societal expectations of men in order to make their environment safer.
